Running Rituals
by Gerard Pizarras
Like everyone, Gerard has his own rituals before and during his runs and describes them thus: "Before running I write verses, biblical quotes, and positive messages on top of each of my feet. While running, I just listen to my iPod with praise songs in my playlist, and communicate with God nonstop. If they see me raising my hand or pointing upward, I'm just praising my Father in heaven. Please don't think I'm weird or something,"he said laughing.
The father of two had much to say when asked to share his thoughts on fatherhood. He said, "Being a father is being there, period. Your kids need to see you, feel you, be with you, especially in their formative years. In my case, I promised my children that I'll always be present until they tell me: "Dad, it's OK. You can do something else now." And more importantly, a father cannot be a good father unless he is a good husband. Show your kids how much you love their mother. To single dads, be a good son to your parents or a good brother to your siblings. Kids need this kind of assurance that you are really capable of loving. Fatherhood is a gift; a God-ordained responsibility. Don't let go of it. After all, it could be the only purpose you have in this life. Pagbutihin mo na."
"A father is a leader with bit of sense of humor. Our children must enjoy being with us. We must instill Godly principles and you must show them how it's done. Read the Bible and live it. No other life coach can be better than what our Eternal life coach provided us through the Scriptures. Fatherhood is very simple,: Gerard concluded.
As devoted as he is to his faith and his real-life role as a parent, Gerard doesn't see himself parting ways with the road anytime soon. "I will run as long as there is a pavement or a road to run on. I have no specific goals for myself, but just like in everything else that I do, my ultimate goal is to attempt to achieve greater things for the glory of God. That said, as long as he wants me to run, I will run. Everything is in His control," he said.
