Your actual fitness condition, including possible illnesses and risk factors, should be determined by standard test at the beginning of the session. This particularly essential if you haven't exercised in a long time, and will help your trainer plan your training. If the club you're in doesn't offer that, check with your doctor, then take those results to the trainer. Or, look for a gym that places value on the well being and safety of its members.
What's better: free weights training or a workout on a machine?
There are lots of reasons why training with free weights is good: Less waiting time for the equipment is one. It's easier to watch yourself in the mirror so you can correct your form, and you can easily isolate a muscle. Machines are often limited by their movement radius and can hinder a comprehensive muscle workout. However, machine are preferable for beginners with no experience. The controlled movements offer more security than free weights.
